The Ottawa Fury Soccer Club

In nine years, under the ownership of John Pugh, a former high technology entrepreneur, the Ottawa Fury has developed into one of the leading clubs in North America at the senior and youth levels. The Ottawa Fury strives to provide opportunities for soccer players in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec to realize their potential to play at the highest level possible and to provide players with access to the best facilities, coaching, competition, medical care, and scholarship support available. Fury teams represent Ottawa in the USL W-League, the USL Men's Premier Development League and the USL Super Y-League.

The W-League represents the highest level of Women's Soccer in North America with many of the best female players in the world participating. In each of the past eight seasons the Fury Women's squad has qualifed for the playoffs reach the North American Championship Finals twice (2005 & 2006) only to fall short to New Jersey and Vancouver respectively. The team has also reached the Championship Final Four five times (2003-2006; and 2009). The Fury's W-League team has been ranked as high as 7th in the world and have had numerous Canadian National team players and international players be involved in one of the W-League's model franchises. 16 past and present members of the Canadian National Women's team have donned the Fury colours that also included three members of our 2010 squad - Christina Julien, Marie-Eve Nault and Sari Raber. In 2010 the Fury W-League achieved its 100th career franchise victory and owns an all-time record of 106-24-16 that ranks third in W-League history with only Long Island (137) and Boston (126) having more wins. 2011 wil mark the 12th season for the 7-time Great Lakes Divsion Champions that have reached the post-season in an impressive 8 conseuctive campaigns. Long-time assistant coach Dom Oliveri will now take over the reign of what is considered the best W-League franchise to not have won the league title and expectations, as they have been every year, will again be to bring a North American Championship to Ottawa.

The Fury Men compete in the USL Premier Development League; a league comprising 64 clubs spanning North America from coast to coast. The PDL provides top US and Canadian players under 23 years of age with the opportunity to perform in a professionalized setting during the summer months while maintaining their collegiate eligibility. The League acts as a development league for players seeking to play in the professional ranks. The Fury joined the PDL in 2005 finishing 3rd in the division with a 9-7-0 record. Whle 2006 saw the team improve with a second place finish in the division 2007 proved to be a step backwards as the team dropped to a 3-8-5 record ending the season in seventh spot. Renewed optimism was injected into the Fury in 2008 when Stephen O'Kane took over the coaching reigned leading the club to a 9-4-3 record only to miss the post-season on a tie-breaker. Undaunted O'Kane followed that up with an undefeated season in 2009 that saw the Fury claim a 12-0-4 record, their first division title and their first-ever post-season berth. The team would fall short in the first-round of the playoffs falling 2-1 in extra time to Ocean City to end an impressive season. Carl Valetine took over as head coach in 2010 again leading the team to their second straight division title and another post-season appearance. After collecting the first-ever playoff victory with a 2-0 win over Newark, the Fury fell 3-2 to Reading United in the Conference Finals to end another season of 'what-ifs'. The Ottawa Fury PDL will kick-off its 7th season in 2011 looking to continue their persuit of a PDL Championship after posting such great success over the past three seasons. Over the past three years the Fury boast the third most points of any team in the PDL with an impressive 32-6-10 record behind 2010 PDL Finalists Thunder Bay Chill and Reading United AC. With the Fury Men having not lost a regular season game at home since 2007 (21-0-6) the attendance has grown dramatically and the Fury Pride is ever-present at all home games making the Algonquin College Soccer Complex one of the toughest venue's to visit in the PDL. With Carl Valentine depart for a post with the MLS' newest franchise the Vancouver Whitecaps, Steve Payne will take over the head coach duties and will immediately look to put his stamp on one of the PDL's fastest growing franchises.

The Super Y-League is a professionalized system that is the first step for developing youth soccer players in North America. The league is designed for talented youth players destined for collegiate, professional or international careers and has the objective of pitting the best youth players in North America against each other week-in and week-out in league play. The Fury's Youth Program is recognized as one of the premier player development programs in North America with 10 teams (U13-U17 Boys & Girls) competing in the USL's Super Y-League. Over the past 8 seasons of the program 33 Fury teams have qualified for the North American Championship that saw the Fury U17 Girls earn the silver medal in 2008 and this past fall the Fury U17 Girls were crowned as the 2010 North American Super Y-League Champions helping the Fury Youth Program climb to a 2nd overall ranking among SYL Clubs in North America. The Fury are only the fourth Canadian team to achieve this feat and the first in Ontario. The Fury Youth teams compete in the New England Division facing opposition from Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts. Youth teams also travel to international tournaments such as the prestigious Foyle Cup in Northern Ireland (where the U16 Boys captured bronze in 2007 and silver in 2008), the Gothia Cup (Youth World Cup) in Sweden (where the U15 Girls finished 8th out of 120 teams in 2009) and the Plomelin Tournament in France. Over the past 8 years 65 Fury Youth player have earned scholarships to U.S. Colleges and Universities in addition to the 100+ Fury graduates that have moved on to play varsity soccer at Canadian Colleges and Universities. The Fury are also very pround of the 14 youth players that currently represent their respecitve countries that include Turkey, Jamaica, Israel, Portugal and Canada and the 7 players that are now with professional clubs in England, Canada, Germany, Czech Republic and the United States.

The Fury Academy, launched in 2006, is a key component of the Ottawa Fury Soccer Club's Player Development Program. The Fury Academy provides young soccer players between the ages of 10 and 12, residing in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec, with player development programming that is of the highest standard and quality. The Ottawa Fury's approach to player development relies on the same model used in leading soccer nations, which in recent years is also being adopted by progressive North American clubs - the model is based on providing a Player Development Pyramid internal to a club that includes youth, reserve and senior teams playing in national and/or continental leagues. 2011 will mark the 6th season of the Fury's Academy Program that has been taken to new heights each and every season. The Fury Acadmey (U10-U12) is staffed with knowledgeable and specialized coaches offering a comprehensive and integrated approach to player development. 2010 marked a very successful season for the program with Academy player Elliott Simmons signing with MK Dons Academy in England, teams travelled to London, England to participate in a Tottenham Hotspur Academy Residency experience and also travelled to France for the Plomelin Tournament.

First offered in the Fall and Winter of 2007, the Ottawa Fury Soccer Club School of Excellence Program is a key grassroots component in the Fury's comprehensive Player Development Program. The School of Excellence Program caters to 9 to 12 year old players who want to develop their soccer skills at the key development ages under the stewardship of some of the region's top coaches. Please note that the program will NOT have a competitive team or league component - players in the School will remain with their club teams. The School of Excellence Program is open to youth players aged 9-12 that are looking to continue to develop their skills. The idea behind the program is to ensure that players have as much contact with the ball as possible to aid in their touch, familiarity, control and confidence. The program is broken into two phases - Phase 1 is a 5-week program that is offered for FREE by the club and runs in the early fall. Phase 2, which is currently in progress, is a 15-week program that runs November-March that is offered in the East and West ends of the city. The First Touch Program was put into action in the fall of 2010 as the newest component of Fury's Player Development Pyramid. The First Touch Program caters to players aged 5-8 with the premise behind this program being to introduce and engage young players with the basic elements of the game to help develop and grow their passion and skills for the game. The program was implemented under the advice of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and the Canadian Soccer Association.

The Ottawa Fury Soccer Club is very pleased to offer our Soccer in Schools Program for a 9th consecutive season. In partnership with Health Canada, the Fury aids in the quest to increase the level of physical activity throughout Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. Using soccer as the medium, the Ottawa Fury are aiding Health Canada's goal of increasing the amount of physical activity of inactive children and youth by 30 minutes more per day. Using fun, skill-based games, Fury coaches or players will come to your school to conduct one hour clinics in gymnasiums or on the school's playing field. The clinic will consist of a ten minute talk on the benefits of physical activity, a thirty minute activity session and a ten minute Question and Answer session with Fury personnel. This program has grown dramatically since its inception thanks in large part to the Fury players, coaches and our sponsors. In the past three years the Fury have visited over 85 schools with over 15,000 students participating. The Fury's Soccer in School's Program is one that we take great pride in. Fury PDL and W-League players visit local and area schools to help educate students about the importance of staying active and maintaining a healthy diet as part of our partnership with Health Canada. Students also get to spend time on the field with these players practicing their skills and even challenging these elite athletes to games. All students receive tickets to Fury PDL/W-League games, a magazine from Health Canada along with other items from Club sponsors. Fury Camps are offered at a variety of points throughout the year. Camps are offered during the March Break (Ottawa School Calendar) and during the month of July. The Fury also offer team camps - where Fury coaches and/or PDL or W-League players will run one or several training sessions for your teams. The Fury also offer community camps that can run for a day or multiple weeks - in years past the Fury have run Community Camps in Brockville, Perth and Portland. This past summer, the Fury we please to welcome coaching staff from English Premier League Club Tottenham Hotspur to run two weeks of the Fury's High Performance camps in the month of July. For more information on Fury Camps please click here.

The Fury also provide corporate and individual sponsorship opportunities, ticket and merchandise sales. The programs and opportunities in addition to other fundraising efforts help the Ottawa Fury pay for such things as travel, league fees, equipment, marketing and administration fees. The Super-Y League and Academy teams are currently largely supported by parent contributions.
