Fury Men Look to Improve on Best-Ever Season
The USL unveiled the 2010 PDL schedule today that will see the Ottawa Fury Men play a 16-game schedule in the Northeast Division where they will look to repeat as Division champions after posting an undefeated season (12-0-4) in 2009 en route to their first-ever post-season birth.

The Fury will open the season under new head coach Carl Valentine at the friendly confines of Algonquin College on Sunday, May 30th when they entertain the Western Mass Pioneers who join the PDL after spending the last 11 years in USL Division 2. The Fury have not lost a regular season game at home since June 24, 2007 – a three year stretch that has seen them compile are record of 14-0-4.

Edwards, Vickerton, Schippers all invited to event
Three Ottawa Fury players have been named among the 70 invitees to the 2010 USL Showcase.  Martin Vickerton, Julien Edwards and Adrian Schippers were all announced on the provisional list.

The USL combine is an event that offers players in the PDL a chance to showcase their skills in front of professional scouts in the hope of attracting a pro soccer contract.  This year's version will be hosted by the USL-2 Charleston Battery at Blackbaud stadium from February 4-6.

Fury PDL defender aims for professional soccer contract
The end of 2009 and beginning of 2010 have been great times for Fury Youth Program graduate and Drake University player Julien Edwards.  The Ottawa-born defender first saw himself chosen as a member of the U23 Canadian National team, and followed that success up by playing a crucial part in win after win of a Cinderella ride to the Elite-8 of the NCAA Division-1 National Championships (also featured on that team - Fury PDL goalkeeper Mike Drozd).  With all the attention being given to his superb play and attitude, it was only fitting that Julien was named as a member of the 62 players who will be showcased during the 2010 MLS Player Combine.

Valentine Brings Years of Playing and Coaching Experience to New Role with Fury
The Ottawa Fury are pleased to announce the appointment of Carl Valentine as the head coach of the Ottawa Fury PDL team for the 2010 season. Carl joins the Fury after Stephen O’Kane stepped aside for family reasons following a successful two-year tenure as head coach.

“First, I want to pay tribute to Stephen O’Kane who has taken our Men’s program to new heights over the past two seasons. Together with his assistants Jason Whiting and Marc Lapointe, Stephen led us to the Division title, an unbeaten regular season in 2009 and our first-ever appearance in the playoffs,” said John Pugh, Fury Owner and CEO.

Ottawa's Best Kept Soccer Secret

The Ottawa Fury Soccer Club offers the highest level of men's soccer available in the Ottawa area, and it's only going to get better! In 2005, the Fury first formed a team in the USL Premier Development League, the top U23 men's league in North America and a development ground for players aspiring to play in the professional ranks. In their inaugural season, this terrific startup finished just out of a playoff spot - not bad in a league of over sixty teams!

In 2008, the Fury Men provided the Ottawa area with some very exciting soccer, finishing with their best ever record at 9-4-3.  An early season loss to the Newark Ironbound Express kept them out of the playoffs after a points tie, but the team posted some of their best numbers in club history.  Goalkeepers Mike Drozd and Erik Lefebvre combined for five shutouts, while the team led the conference in goals on the strength of eleven different goal scorers. Forward Will Beauge was rewarded for his seven goals and four assists with a spot on the All Conference team.

As the team expands their achievements, many players use their experience with the Fury as a stepping stone to great success in other places. After two seasons with the Fury PDL team, Tyler Hemming made his debut with the Toronto FC Major League Soccer club in 2007. Will  Beauge carried on his 2008 success, garnering awards as the CCAA and OCAA Player of the Year following a stellar fall season at Algonquin College. Florian DeCamps showed off his skills at the University of Dayton, twice being named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week during the 2008 fall season. Two other former players, Kofi Ilboudo and Roberto Gutierrez, were named to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Men's soccer All-Canadian teams in 2007.

Fury PDL History

The Fury Men compete in the USL Premier Development League; a league comprising 67 clubs spanning North America from coast to coast. In their inaugural year (2005) the Fury squad finished in third place in the New England Division, one short of a playoff position with a 9-7-0 record. In 2006 the team finished with a 7-6-3 record good for 2nd place in the Division. Despite a pleasing start (1-1-3) in 2007 the Fury fell to 7th in the Division with a 3-8-5 record. The 2008 squad returned with renewed optimism and despite a record of 6-1-3 down the stretch and recording their best season on record going 9-4-3 the team missed the playoffs on a tie-braker. The PDL provides top US and Canadian players under 23 years of age with the opportunity to perform in a professionalized setting during the summer months while maintaining their collegiate eligibility. The League acts as a development league for players seeking to play in the professional ranks.
