Program Overview

Why a Program for 4-7 year olds?

After consulting with coaches from Tottenham Hotspur, our own technical staff and the Canadian Soccer Association's Coaching Development Program we understand the need, the importance and the relevance for a program that engages players at younger ages to get involved in the game of soccer and begin to build and develop their technical and tactial skills in addition to growing their passion for the game.

At this introductory level, the objective is to introduce and engage children into the game of soccer adhering to a physical curriculum and technical requirements.

Physical Curriculum: Running, Jumping, Twisting, Throwing and Catching

Technical Requirements: Running with the ball, stopping and changing directions with the ball, dribbling, kicking, shooting

The program has three key elements that players at these age levels should focus on highlighting both technical and tactical areas of importance:
- Ball Mastery
- Progression with the Ball
- Transmission of the Ball (Passing and Shooting)

At this stage of a player’s development it is all about introduction and initiation through innovative drills and exercises to develop physical literacy and familiarity with the ball together with small-sided games in a FUN environment.

The most important element of this program is FUN

The main goal of the program and it's staff is to teach the technical skill requirements of the game. There will be a large "touch on the ball" focus! Gone are the days of players standing in line watching one player with one ball....this program will be ball focussed and include training sessions touching on all the individual skills required to play the game at the highest level.
