Fury record second win of season with 1-0 victory over the Comètes

[2007.06.02 - Ottawa]  Ottawa edge Laval in close game

The Ottawa Fury continued their W-League season with a 1-0 win over the Laval Cometes this evening at Keith Harris Stadium. A goal from Kelly Parker at the 39th minute mark gave the Fury the victory.

Goalkeeper Vanessa Phillips-Bosshart (pictured right) registered her second shutout of the season and made a succession of fine saves in today's game.

There were not too many chances in the first half of a tightly fought game at Keith Harris Stadium. Josee Belanger was dangerous in the first few minutes shooting over and wide after getting into good positions. The Fury gradually began to impose themselves in midfield with Leah Robinson and Stacey Stocco prominent. Kelly Parker and Stocco both shot just over. Carmelina Moscato came close after being set up by Kelly Parker. Josee Belanger had a good opportunity for Laval but shot straight at Vanessa Phillips-Bosshart .

The Fury finally took the lead at the 39th minute. A cross from Caroline Vanderpool to the far post was not handled by Laval keeper Marie-Pierre Bilodeau and from the ensuing scramble, Kelly Parker shot home. (Picture Left: Fury celebrate Parker's goal)

At the 57th minute, Phillips-Bosshart (pictured right) superbly tipped a fierce shot from Adrienne Gagne over the bar as Laval pressed forward. In the 62nd minute, Josee Busilacchi raced down the left hand side and crossed just out of the reach of the onrushing Belanger. The injured Stocco was replaced by Alex Valerio who immediately set up a chance that Parker was just unable to convert. The pacy Laval forwards gave the Fury lots of concern in the latter stages. Josee Belanger finally got free late on but Phillips-Bosshart came to the Fury’s rescue and blocked the shot.

The Fury Women (2-0-0) will next be at home on Wednesday June 4th at 4:00 PM when they take on the U17 Girls Canadian National Team in an exhibition game forming the first part of a double header. The Men’s PDL team will play the Vermont Voltage on Wednesday evening in a 6:30 PM kick off. The Fury Men will be back at home next weekend when they take on the Albany Admirals in a PDL game. All games are played at Keith Harris Stadium at Carleton University.
